Wedding Dress Codes
Black Tie
Men can never go wrong with a classic tuxedo for the most formal weddings. What we love about winter months is the ability to lean into more jewel-toned colors when it comes to tuxedo jackets; think deep maroons or forest green. Ladies, this is your chance to wear an elegant floor-length gown. For winter months, we love velvet fabrics or silks with a faux fur coat for a touch of drama.
Formal or Black Tie Optional
This dress code offers flexibility. Men can go for a tuxedo or a dark suit with a tie. Women can choose between a long dress, an elevated cocktail dress, or separates. To ensure you stay warm, consider adding a floor-length peacoat or faux fur wrap.
Cocktail
Cocktail looks are a combination of fun and elegance. Ladies think knee-length dresses, gentlemen, a dark suit and tie will do perfectly. Since it's winter, mix it up with darker shades like navy, burgundy, or forest green colors that will always look good during this
time of year.
Semi-Formal
Semi-formal attire is less dressy than cocktail attire. Men can wear suits and ties in more varied colors, not just the traditional dark hues. We love seeing men get creative with a plaid or tartan print sport coat. With Texas winters being unpredictable, bring layers of a shawl or a blazer to keep warm.
Casual
When it comes to men's casual, we love layering a nice sweater on top of a button-down. Not only will this keep you warm, but it will make you look a touch more polished. For women, it's all about the fabric, wearing a lighter fabric with layers or going the opposite direction with a sweater dress, depending on the weather. Even though it is winter, it is still Texas, so expect the unexpected by bringing a layer to go on top.
Themed (Christmas or NYE)
If it's a themed wedding, have some fun! For a Christmas wedding, think metallics or red and green accents. This does not permit you to wear a Santa hat or an ugly Christmas sweater. For New Year's Eve themes, you've got to go for sparkle, with golds and metallics being the color palette to lean into.
Come As You Are
This is the most relaxed dress code. Wear something you feel great in, and that suits the occasion. The key to this relaxed dress code is ensuring you look and feel good. Whatever you end up wearing, please leave the tennis shoes at home.
Dress Codes and Wedding Colors for a Winter Wedding at The Wayback
If the couple gave you a dress code and wedding colors, they'd like to see the guests dressed and try to look for outfits matching the color. This is a great way to wear the appropriate outfit for the day without second-guessing yourself! All of the looks we provided above can be found at Neiman Marcus, online or in store. Remember, Texas winters can be mild, but evenings can get chilly. We recommend layers that are easy to wear or remove for all dress codes. As always, please do not be the wedding guest who wears white, even a white dress with flowers. If you think you'd have to ask the bride if it's okay, chances are it's too much white.
